Marrie Walsh was born under the shadow of the Ox Mountains in Attymas, County Mayo, in 1929, the ninth of thirteen surviving children of a farming family. From her 1940s teenage years in a small Irish town, emigration to Britain and her struggle to find lodgings and work, The Willing Exile is the personal journey of a young Irish woman making her way in the world, set against the rumbustious colour of the Irish community in post-war Birmingham. On the death of her husband of forty years, she returned in 2000 to a renovated cottage neighbouring her childhood home in Ireland. She is the author of the popular An Irish Country Childhood Memories of a Bygone Age, and Old Irish Tales from the Forge.
The Willing Exile eBook Marrie Walsh
This book followed Marrie through her teen years to the 1990's. It was very interesting to learn how the Irish went to England to work and live and the hardships they endured. I think it was wonderful that she got to go Home again.Product details
